We arrived in Phnom Penh three days ago. And we discovered a city rich in culture and full of life. But how to leave Phnom Penh without visiting Oudong ? Unthinkable.
At one hour and half drive from Phnom Penh, Oudong is close of the national road 5.
In the past, Oudong was the capital city of cambodia from 1618 until 1866. After that, King Norodom decided to move to Chaktomouk (Phnom Penh).
Today, it is an authentic and stunning place to discover. Wonderful temples, stupas and pagodas are gathered in the same place. Stupas and temples were build at the top of hills. You need to climb 509 steps to reach the top. During your ascent, take a break with monkeys. Once the top reached, your effort will be rewarded. A huge white and beautiful stupa containing the remains of the Khmer Kings, dominates the hill. From up there, you have a wonderful view of the landscape.
How to go there :
Oudong is located at 40km at the northwest of Phnom Penh (about an hour). Take a bus for cheap (every 30 minutes) or a taxi.
